Book Club Reflections
Well, we finally read a CoHo book as book club. Woohoo! Lauren’s pick for April was IT ENDS WITH US, one of bookstagram’s darlings. 🥰
There was certainly a lot to discuss about this book: the characters and their motivations, the ending, the plausibility of some of the plot details, the integration of the letters, and obviously, the abuse.
As you know, we have a series of bookmarks that we use to help guide our book club conversations. We found that It Ends With Us reads fast and easy like a Beach Read, but includes much heavier content. We still opted to use the Beach Book Banter bookmark and it worked out just fine for discussing this book. 😉
Two things we found interesting about this book and our discussion were:
1 How much this book seems to resonate with so many readers, particularly teenage readers who we are seeing reading this book in high schools for their independent reading choice.
2 How much time we spent discussing the author’s note which was particularly poignant. We don’t don’t think we’ve ever spent that much time on an authors note before and we discuss EVERYTHING 🤣
Overall, this isn’t typically the type of book we read for our book club, but what can we say besides, “Bookstagram made us do it!”?
And for those of you who loved It Ends With Us, rumor has it the sequel will be out in Oct. 2022.
